Best Dogs Subreddits (October 2026)

Reddit's dogs scene is bigger than any single subreddit. We checked the communities Reddit returns for “dogs” and “dog”, kept the public, safe-for-work ones with at least 25,000 members that are still posting, and ranked the 12 that remain by size. Together they have 12M members.

How the dogs communities compare

The audience is spread out — the top three account for 56% of members, and the niche communities further down are often where the detailed discussions happen. Size and activity don't line up perfectly: r/dogs has the most members, but r/DogAdvice gets the most new posts (about 132 a day, against 71 in r/dogs). Among the communities we track weekly, r/dogpictures grew fastest recently (+0.08%, +941 members since Oct 19). The oldest is r/dogs, founded in 2008, and every community here is more than five years old — this is a long-established corner of Reddit.

Choosing where to post

If you have a question, start in r/DogAdvice: it is set up for exactly that, and with about 132 new posts a day there are plenty of people around to answer. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/dogswithjobs has 911.3K members but only about 2.0 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 455.7K members — while r/DogAdvice gets about 132 a day, one for every 2.2K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/dogswithjobs; r/DogAdvice is better when you want quick replies.

A simple rule of thumb: ask questions in the specialised communities and share your best finds in the big ones, where they can reach the most people. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
