Best Artificial Intelligence Subreddits (October 2026)

Most artificial intelligence talk on Reddit happens in a few big places, but the smaller communities are where the specialists are. We checked the communities Reddit returns for “artificial intelligence” and “machine learning”, kept the public, safe-for-work ones with at least 25,000 members that are still posting, and ranked the 12 that remain by size. Together they have 19.7M members.

How the artificial intelligence communities compare

Membership is concentrated: the three largest communities hold 85% of all members on this list, so most of the artificial intelligence conversation happens in a handful of places. r/ChatGPT is both the biggest and the busiest, with about 189 new posts a day. Per member, the liveliest is r/automation: 15 posts a day from 31.7K members — a smaller crowd, but an engaged one. Among the communities we track weekly, r/ArtificialInteligence grew fastest recently (+0.41%, +8.1K members since Oct 19). The oldest is r/artificial, founded in 2008; 5 of the 12 were started in the last five years, a sign the topic keeps splitting into new niches.

Choosing where to post

For beginner questions, r/learnmachinelearning is the natural first stop — it exists for advice, and roughly 49 new threads a day keep it moving. Asking the same thing in r/ChatGPT often gets it removed or lost among the 189 daily posts. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/MachineLearning has 3.1M members but only about 13 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 231.5K members — while r/ChatGPT gets about 189 a day, one for every 62K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/MachineLearning; r/ChatGPT is better when you want quick replies. Rule sets vary: of the communities we have rules for, r/ArtificialInteligence lists 11, against 6 in r/ChatGPT, so a post that is fine in one can be removed in another.

Before posting, sort a subreddit by “Top” for the past month: it shows in a minute what that community rewards. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
