Conversation prompts vs answerable questions

Both communities are text-question spaces, but their public framing differs. AskReddit invites thought-provoking questions; NoStupidQuestions invites people to “ask away,” with an explicit disclaimer that anonymous answers may be wrong.

Scale and tempo diverge in our data. AskReddit sits near the top of the SFW directory (tens of millions of members) with thousands of posts per day in our sample—all text. NoStupidQuestions is still very large (millions of members) with a high but smaller posts-per-day sample, also essentially all text.

Collected short rule titles encode the product difference. AskReddit’s titles emphasise clear, open-ended questions and ban personal/professional advice requests and loaded questions. NoStupidQuestions’ titles require a genuine human-written attempt at an answer in top-level comments, ask people to search first, and ban medical-advice questions and trolling/joke questions. Use AskReddit for discussion and stories; use NoStupidQuestions for a straight informational ask, accepting uneven accuracy.

  • AskReddit: open-ended, discussion-first; advice requests conflict with collected short rule titles.
  • NoStupidQuestions: factual curiosity welcome; top-level answers expected to be genuine attempts (collected title).
  • Pick by question shape. AskReddit has a full SubMouse community page; NoStupidQuestions is listed in the directory but outside the current Top list.

Overlap without sameness

Our directory lists AskReddit among related communities for NoStupidQuestions. That single direct link helps explain why newcomers confuse them; the short rule titles are what keep the lanes apart. We do not treat other names on either related list as proof these two share a theme.

Where this comparison comes from

Public descriptions and member counts from SubMouse’s safe-for-work directory. Short rule titles and activity samples SubMouse collected. Direct related-list link NoStupidQuestions → AskReddit. Short titles only—no full sidebar copy.

Members and public descriptions come from SubMouse's safe-for-work directory (as of 2026-11-02 UTC); 7-day growth measured from 2026-10-26. Posts/day and post-type mixes appear when we have an activity sample. Rule lines are short titles, not the full sidebar. Directory rank is listing order — communities outside the current Top 100 open in the info tool instead of a full community page.
